Do not confuse the ABHA Card with the Ayushman PM-JAY Card.
- PM-JAY Card: Gives you ₹5 Lakh free treatment (for poor citizens).
- ABHA Card: Gives you NO money. It is simply a digital locker for your medical history (available to ALL citizens, rich or poor).
Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the government is trying to eliminate physical medical files. By generating a 14-digit ABHA number, all your blood test reports, doctor prescriptions, and X-rays are linked to your phone. If you switch doctors, you simply grant the new doctor temporary access to your ABHA account to see your entire medical history.
Exact Steps: How to Generate ABHA & Link Records
Step 1: Generate ABHA (Do it yourself)
- Download the official "ABHA App" from the Google Play Store (developed by NHA).
- Click "Create ABHA Number". Enter your Aadhaar Number and authenticate with the Aadhaar OTP.
- Your 14-digit ABHA number is generated instantly.
Step 2: Linking Records (The Reality) You cannot magically pull old physical records into the app. Records are only linked when you visit a hospital that is ABDM-Compliant.
- At the Hospital (Scan & Share): When you walk into a major government or compliant private hospital, you will see a QR code at the OPD counter.
- Open your ABHA App, tap Scan & Share, and scan the QR code.
- Your details (Name, Age, ABHA ID) are instantly sent to the receptionist's computer. You bypass the long registration queue.
- When the doctor writes a digital prescription, or the lab does a blood test, they push the PDF directly to your ABHA app.
Hidden Rule on Consent: No hospital or government agency can view your records without your permission. You have complete control inside the ABHA app to grant, deny, or revoke a doctor's access to your files.
