About the Scheme
What is PM-KISAN?
PM-KISAN is the Government of India's flagship income support programme for farmers. It provides ₹6,000 per year directly to the bank accounts of eligible landholding farmer families across the country.
Why Was It Launched?
Millions of Indian farmers struggle to buy seeds, fertilisers, and other inputs at the start of each cropping season. Many end up borrowing from informal money lenders at high interest rates. PM-KISAN was created to put money directly into farmers' hands before the sowing season, reducing their dependence on costly informal credit.
How Does It Work?
The Central Government releases ₹2,000 three times a year to every verified beneficiary through DBT. The state governments verify land ownership records and approve beneficiary lists. Once a farmer is verified and has completed e-KYC, payments flow automatically every cycle. The scheme was initially limited to small and marginal farmers with up to 2 hectares of land. From June 2019, this cap was removed, and all landholding farmer families became eligible.
Latest Updates (2026)
- 23rd installment released on 20th June 2026 — ₹18,880 crore disbursed to over 9.44 crore farmers at an event in Tarakeswar, Hooghly, West Bengal.
- 24th installment is expected around October 2026 (no official date announced yet).
- e-KYC remains mandatory — farmers who have not completed it will not receive future installments.
- Total disbursement since the scheme's launch has crossed ₹4.46 lakh crore.
- Aadhaar-NPCI bank mapping continues to be strictly enforced.

Common Mistakes While Applying
- Not completing e-KYC — This is the most common reason for missed installments. Complete it immediately after registration.
- Aadhaar not linked to bank account — Without Aadhaar seeding, DBT payments will fail.
- NPCI mapping not done — Even if Aadhaar is linked to your bank account, you must also ensure NPCI mapping is active. Check with your bank.
- Name mismatch — Your name on Aadhaar, bank account, and land records must match exactly. Even small spelling differences can cause rejection.
- Wrong land details — Entering incorrect Khasra or Khatauni numbers leads to verification failure.
- Duplicate applications — Applying more than once with the same Aadhaar is automatically flagged and rejected.
- Inactive bank account — If your bank account is dormant, the payment will bounce. Keep it active.
