About the Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) aims to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to all houseless rural families, as well as those living in kucha or dilapidated houses. The financial assistance is deposited directly into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account in installments, corresponding to different stages of house construction (Foundation, Plinth, Roof, etc.).

High-Value Insider Info: The Exact Process & "Hidden" Rules

  1. No Direct "Apply Online" Button: A major misconception is that you can apply for a PMAY-G house online. You cannot. Beneficiaries are identified based on the SECC 2011 database and the recent Awaas+ 2024 survey. Only authorized Gram Panchayat or block officials can enter your name into the system.
  2. The Awaas+ Lifeline: If your name was not in the 2011 census, you must contact your Gram Pradhan to ensure your family is listed in the Awaas+ survey database, which is used to select new beneficiaries.
  3. Why Payments Get Stuck (The Geo-tagging Trap): If you received your first installment but the second one is delayed, it is almost certainly a Geo-tagging issue. The government uses the AwaasSoft App. The block inspector MUST upload a live, geo-tagged photo of your partially built house before the system releases the next installment. If you build the house but the inspector doesn't upload the photo, your money is blocked.
  4. Extra Money (Convergence): A PMAY-G house technically gets you around ₹1.5 Lakh to ₹1.7 Lakh in total value. You get ₹1.2 Lakh for the house, plus ₹12,000 extra under Swachh Bharat for the toilet, plus you and your family are paid for 90 days of labor under MGNREGA to build your own house!

Eligibility Criteria

  • Houseless families or those living in zero, one, or two-room houses with kucha walls and roof.
  • Households without a literate adult above 25 years of age.
  • Households without an adult male member aged between 16 and 59.
  • Landless households deriving a major part of their income from manual casual labor.

Exact Navigation Path: How to Check Your Name

Do not rely on middlemen to check your status. Check it yourself:

  1. Go to pmayg.nic.in.
  2. Under the "Awaassoft" tab on the top menu, click on "Reports".
  3. Scroll down to the "E. SECC Reports" section and click on "Category-wise SECC data Verification Summary".
  4. Filter by your State, District, Block, and Gram Panchayat.
  5. The system will display the official list of families in your village whose names have been approved for housing.

FAQs

My bank account changed. Will my PMAY-G money stop?

Because the government uses ABPS (Aadhaar Based Payment), the money is sent to your Aadhaar number. The money will automatically go to whichever bank account is currently linked (NPCI mapped) to your Aadhaar.

Can I build a bigger house than the government specifies?

The minimum specified area is 25 sq. meters. You can build a bigger house, but the government's financial assistance is capped at ₹1.20/₹1.30 Lakh. You will have to bear the additional cost yourself.
